Overview

As an apprentice you will have a job and earn a wage whilst building up knowledge and skills within the land-based service engineering industry. The Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard comprises a Work-Based Diploma in Land-Based Engineering Operations, Functional Skills (English, Maths and ICT), Emergency First Aid and Abrasive Wheels. The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships also include Forklift Truck Handling. 

Alternatively, you may be directed to study a framework of qualifications made up of a Work-Based Diploma in Land-Based Engineering Operations, Functional Skills (English, Maths and ICT), Employee Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS). 

Details

Level 2 Apprenticeship:

  • Understanding how to use, service and maintain tools
  • Servicing and maintenance on land-based equipment
  • Servicing and repairing engines and components
  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety.

Level 3 Apprenticeship:

  • Recognising and reducing risks in the work area
  • Monitoring the handover and installation of land-based equipment
  • Maintaining electronic control and monitoring systems.

Entry requirements

You must have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or 4 or equivalent. For the Level 3 Apprenticeship, you must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Engineering. For both levels, you must also pass an initial assessment, secure work as an apprentice and have one satisfactory reference.
