The course is delivered in the business department at the Grimsby Institute in a very practical way ensuring students are prepared for working in a business environment and will take part in projects to complete the qualification.


Expertise and knowledge in business disciplines and activities will open up the world to you. Business knowledge acts as the foundation of most industries and is integral to career choices from administration, management, right through to the likes of your favourite vloggers all of whom need business knowledge to do what they do. During this course you will look at enterprise in the business world, finance, business planning, brand promotion and marketing and project management. Sales, online business and visual merchandising will also form a part of the course and, as you progress, the addition of accounting, law, human resources and management will add to your knowledge and employability.   If you are a level 3 learner you can now undertake a Certificate in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship which is an additional qualification alongside your course. This part of the course will see you out of the classroom and experiencing real-life business environments. Previous trips have included: Liverpool, Barcelona and various universities.You will learn about working in an office, the importance of team work, communication and organisation. Units of the qualification include Marketing, Financial accounting, Communication, Employment Law, Human Resources, Team and organising a Business Event.

How will it be delivered?

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process. The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, or equivalent, including Maths and English Language

Your next steps...

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
