Want to design the latest app that gets everyone talking? Maybe web design and development is your passion. Whether it is e-commerce, digital animation, cyber security or 3D modelling, our specially designed courses could be your first step into that world. Our computing courses are project based so you will be hands on from day one and will get to experience real work environments on placements tailored to your skills. You could learn about networking and computer systems, database creation, project management, 3D modelling, games design, app development, e-commerce, web design and development, the online world, digital animation and graphics. These units will be assessed as a combined set of projects linking to job roles in the IT industry. You will also have the opportunity to take part in work experience. Trips and talks have included London Comic Con, and guest speakers from Ardman Animations, GCHQ, Sony and Microsoft our courses offer you a unique insight into the industry. At level 2 the computing course includes graphics, web design and pc maintenance and repair including computing related projects. Unit to be studied include The Online World, Technology Systems, Animation, Digital Graphics, Networks and Installing and Maintaining Hardware and Software.
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.
4 GCSEs grade 3 or above or equivalent including Maths and English Language
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
