The Health and Medical Pathway at Career 6 prepares learners for university places in areas such as Medical Science, Radiography, biomedical sciences, physiological sciences, clinical laboratory services or related subjects. The combination of diplomas in Health Studies and Medical Studies will create a programme of study suitable for further study, an apprenticeship or work in the future. All learners will take part in relevant work experience.
Learners will undertake a Level 3 BTEC diploma in Science and a Level 3 Diploma in Medical Studies. Applied Science provides the opportunity to apply your scientific learning and knowledge to practical and industry-based scenarios. You will be assessed on the application of your learning to real-world situations. The Applied Science course offers a practical, hands-on approach to science with lots of opportunities to carry out experimental work in our art laboratories. Each unit is tailored to give you the skills you need to succeed at university and within the science industry. Medical Science is the science of dealing with the maintenance of health and the prevention and treatment of diseases. The Level 3 Diploma in Medical Science is for learners who are interested in careers related to healthcare and medical research. Medical scientists are at the forefront of the healthcare service as they are vital in the diagnosis of disease, determining the effectiveness of treatments and searching for new cures. The qualification covers the key topic areas of health, physiology and disease, as well as providing the opportunity to study the areas of pharmacology, physiological measurement, clinical testing and medical research.
We recommend that you have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above. These must include a grade 4 in English Language and grade 5 in Maths and Sciences.
Progression can be to University courses in medical science, biomedical science or related areas, an Apprenticeship or work in a related area.
