Overview
This course is ideal for learners who have a specific interest in the visual arts and wish to have a more applied element to their art. Students will be able to enjoy the challenge of visualising their ideas and feelings using a wide range of media, including computers. They will also be able to analyse and evaluate design and graphics in the commercial world. Students will be introduced to a wide range of traditional art materials through painting and drawing, and to specialist design software Illustrator and Photoshop.
There will be opportunities to visit art galleries and other cultural events.
Details
The Units are:
- Art & Design Personal Investigation: explores the relationships between practical ideas and methods with the history of the subject and its professional applications. A written Personal Study exploring an aspect of Graphics that is chosen by the student.
- Externally-set Assignment: involves showing evidence of visual language and analytical skills. The submissions include a response to a set theme carried out over a preparation period followed by a 15-hour timed test.
How will it be delivered?
This course is assessed by a personal investigation (60%) and an exam (40%).
Entry requirements
GCSE Art or Graphics and English at grade 4 with an average points score of 3.2 or above.
