What will you be working towards?
Apprenticeships combine on the job and off the job training. On the job, an apprentice will work with an employer's mentor or line manager, learning the skills on site and working towards the competency element of the qualifications. Off the job, apprentices work with their assessor and have access to resources, such as a workbook, to ensure they learn the knowledge elements of the framework. If the required level of Maths, English and ICT qualifications have not been previously achieved or where qualifications are no longer in date, apprentices must also complete functional skill qualifications in these subjects. These would be completed through agreed delivery methods and support including classroom, distance learning, e-learning and assessor support.
This framework will enable learners to develop their Painting and Decorating skills, knowledge and experience. It also enables an individual to gain valuable work experience and obtain qualifications whilst working with an employer.

Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace.
Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
Preparing surfaces for painting/decorating in the workplace
Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace
The apprenticeship framework consists of:
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations
Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating
Functional Skills: Maths and English
Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills
Employee Rights and Responsibilities
There are no formal entry requirements however GCSEs in Maths, English and ICT at grade A* - C are desirable.

The qualification is designed for staff within the role of painting and decorating. It will provide a basic understanding and an opportunity to demonstrate and recognise their competences which are critical to performance at work, as well as supporting career progression.
The units have been developed through working in partnership with employers to ensure that individuals have the exact skills needed to perform reliably and consistently at work.
